A24, the renowned film studio behind award-winning horror movies like “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” has just announced the cast for the third film in its popular “X” horror franchise, titled “MaXXXine.” Director Ti West, who helmed the first two installments, has assembled an all-star cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
“MaXXXine” picks up where “X” left off, following the character of Maxine (Mia Goth) as she tries to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles, following the brutal events of the previous film. However, as the Hollywood Reporter reveals, things quickly take a dark and twisted turn as Maxine delves deeper into the seedy world of pornography.
Debicki, who is best known for her role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and her Golden Globe-nominated performance as Princess Diana in “The Crown,” is set to play a yet-to-be-revealed character in the film. Sumney, a singer-songwriter who has previously appeared in “Creed” and “Random Acts of Flyness,” will also have a role in the movie.
Monaghan, who has starred in blockbusters like “Mission: Impossible” and “Patriots Day,” will portray a character named Nanny. Cannavale, who recently starred in Ryan Murphy’s “The Watcher,” will play an unnamed role. Collins, the Emmy-nominated star of “Emily in Paris,” will have a part in the film, as will Halsey, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter.
Esposito, who has received critical acclaim for his role in “Better Call Saul” and has also appeared in “The Mandalorian” and “Once Upon a Time,” is set to play an agent for Z-list actors and porn stars. Meanwhile, Bacon, the Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning screen icon, will also have a part in the film.
“MaXXXine” promises to be even more sexually charged and terrifying than its predecessors, as Maxine finds herself in increasingly dangerous situations in her pursuit of fame. Production on the film is set to begin this month, with a release date yet to be announced. Fans of the “X” series will no doubt be eagerly anticipating the latest installment, which looks set to cement A24’s reputation as one of the leading purveyors of horror in modern cinema.
